Mt. Hood, Oregon
In an effort to improve visitor experience and accommodate a growing customer base, Mt. Hood Meadows ski area wants to renovate their existing base lodge while expanding their base area to include a new learning/rental center, a group lodge, and a new drop off pavilion. The new rental building will include a kids learning center, rentals and new food and beverage center; the group lodge includes group sales, lockers, F&B, and a small conference center. A small people mover is planned to connect the group lodge and rental building. Sustainable design parameters primarily focused on limiting the site modifications by using existing building foundations, minimizing car travel by increasing mass-transit to the mountain, and reducing energy demands through space and envelope optimization. Currently, the new rental building is engaged in design development with estimated construction beginning in 2017.
